During the meeting of the Marshall School Board on Tuesday, October 23, representatives from Ittner Architectural Designs were present and offered several design options for the addition the school district will be making to the Spainhower building on the former campus of the Marshall Habilitation Center.
Four different designs were presented, each of which includes a storm shelter that also can serve as a place for students to go in the event there is an intruder in the building. And all visitors during school time will have to go through the office to get into the building.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Terry Lorenz says the district is trying to keep the cost as streamlined as possible. He said he’s shown some of the designs to principals and gotten some input.

Board member Dr. Erin Williams asked Dr. Lorenz if the plans are going to be made available for public comment. She said she thinks it’s important for the public to buy into the project and offer input because maybe the district can’t think of everything.

The architects said from ground-breaking to the completion of the addition should take about 12 to 14 months. Dr. Lorenz said the district’s goal is to have everything completed by 2020.
