In order to keep things moving forward with the potential exchange of property between the city of Marshall and Marshall Public School District, the city council- during its meeting on Monday, November 19- was asked to approve an ordinance authorizing Mayor Mark Gooden to sign and execute a contract between the two entities.
City Administrator David Haugland explained he and councilmen Dan Brandt and Kirk Arends have been working with the school district on the agreement for some time.
Arends said nothing has changed from what originally was planned, including the insertion of some safeguards into the contract.
Haugland also said if the school district vacates any of the elementary school buildings, it will contact the city to see if the city has any interest in it (them). He said, according to state law, the district can transfer those to another public entity without going through the bid process; but if the city says it does not want it or them, then the district could sell the building(s) through a bid process.
The council approved the ordinance. The agreement is expected to be presented for signatures of both parties during the next council meeting on Monday, December 3.
