KMMO Sports Broadcaster Greg Schmidt is scheduled to reach a historic, career milestone during the I-70 Conference Basketball Tournament on Saturday, December 8, 2018.
Schmidt has provided over 45 years of play-by-play commentary of high school sporting events and is scheduled to call his 5,000th career game during the Girl’s First-Place game at the I-70 Conference Tournament in his current hometown of Concordia.
Over his four and a half decade career, Schmidt, a lifelong resident of Lafayette County, has called games at multiple prestigious venues from around the state such as Busch Stadium, the Edwards Jones Dome, the Hernes Center, Mizzou Arena, Faurot Field, as well as Kauffman and Arrowhead Stadiums.
Also, Schmidt has been recognized numerous times throughout his career. In 2004, Schmidt received the MSHSAA Distinguished Service Award, an award which at the time was normally reserved for coaches and administrators. He was only the second member of the media industry to receive the honor.
Schmidt will call his 5,000th career game during the I-70 Conference Girls Championship game between Wellington and Lone Jack at around 5 p.m. on December 8, on KMMO 102.9 FM.
