It’s taken several months, but the Marshall City Council and Marshall School Board hammered out an property-transfer agreement and made it official during a signing ceremony on Tuesday, December 11.
During the ceremony, Mayor Mark Gooden and School Board President Brad Guthrey signed the official documents while being seated at a table. They were surrounded by members of the council and school board in the city council chamber at the city office building to celebrate the moment.
The crux of the deal is that the school district transferred the tract of land known as “The Gieringer Property” to the city and received a portion of the land formerly known as the Marshall Habilitation Center- including the Spainhower Building and other structures- in return.
The council and school board had approved the final language of the agreement during their most-recent meetings on November 19.
