A Slater man changed his plea and received a lengthy prison sentence during a hearing at Saline County Circuit Court earlier this week.
A probable-cause statement says Larry Wayne Powers reportedly admitted to authorities he failed to provide proper sex-offender registration information, including his use of multiple social-media sites to communicate with juveniles. Powers also reportedly detailed sexual encounters with a 15-year-old, and admitted he received nude photos from the victim on an unregistered phone in February and March 2018.
Online court documents say 52-year-old Powers was charged with a Class E Felony for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and two counts of an Unclassified Felony for Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy in the First Degree- Aggravated Sexual Offense.
Powers, who pleaded not guilty on August 13, changed his plea on Wednesday, February 13, to guilty to two of the charges.
Online court documents say Powers was sentenced to spend 25 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections on one of the two counts of Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy (with the other being dismissed by the court); and four years on the Failure to Register charge. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently. Powers was remanded to the custody of the Saline County Sheriff’s Department for delivery to the Department of Corrections.
