Saline County Emergency Management Agency Assistant Sharon Sheffer delivered some good news during the meeting of the county commission on Thursday, February 28.
On behalf of director Tony Day, Sheffer said the agency had tried to get a $25,000 grant through SEMA in 2017 but was unsuccessful. However, another opportunity arose in 2018.
Sheffer said the remaining $16,000 will come from the voluntary assessments the county gets from the community. She said it’s not a matching grant- “so it’s a win-win situation for the county.”
Now, the agency is on the clock to get sirens in several communities up and running, according to Sheffer.
Sheffer said the agency tries to help out communities every year. She says it has helped out in the past with the purchase of such things as generators and batteries, etc.
