The Slater City Council approved an amendment to an ordinance regarding marijuana possession during its meeting on Tuesday, March 19.
City Attorney Adam Sommer with Harris, Harris and Gilbert, said the amendment to the ordinance is needed to comply with the state’s new medical marijuana law.
Sommer details the amendment.
Sommer gives a timeline of what is going to happen over the next year and what is needed to be in legal possession of marijuana.
Sommer said residents can still be prosecuted with possession of marijuana if they don’t have the medical card. He gave an example of someone who would face prosecution if they were found in possession of a pharmaceutical narcotic, such as painkillers/opioids or Adderall, without a prescription from a doctor.
