A vehicle pursuit that started east of Columbia ended in the KMMO listening area on Saturday, March 23.
According to a post on the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Facebook page, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance of the patrol with a pursuit. The vehicle’s occupants were wanted for assault in the second degree. Initially, the pursuit traveled on eastbound I-70 at the 170 mile marker. The vehicle exited at Missouri Highway 19 and reentered on westbound I-70.
At this time, the sheriff’s department received reports of the passenger brandishing a firearm, and the suspect vehicle reportedly was attempting to run other vehicles off the roadway.
A patrol helicopter responded and began tracking the vehicle at the 143 mile marker. Near the 121 mile marker, the vehicle struck spikes deployed by a trooper. However, the driver regained control, and the vehicle continued westbound.
After entering Troop A’s area, officers responded and deployed spikes east of Route J in Saline County. The vehicle struck the spikes and exited onto Route J before coming to a stop.
The two occupants were taken into custody without further incident. The subjects were taken back to Montgomery County and released into the custody of deputies.
