A Boonville woman faces felonies for allegedly discharging a firearm during an incident in Cooper County on Sunday, April 21.
A probable cause statement says at about 5:30 p.m., Boonville Police officers responded to a report of an individual with a gun at a residence in the 300 block of Main Street.
While en route, Cooper County 9-1-1 stated the victim reported that 35-year-old Cassandra Abernathy discharged a handgun at a television inside the residence. Officers arrived at the scene and noticed two victims, one adult and one juvenile, exited the residence. The adult victim stated Abernathy was still inside the residence with the firearm. Eventually, Abernathy was taken into custody without incident and reportedly was noticed to be very intoxicated.
Online court documents say Abernathy has been charged with a Class D Felony for Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the First Degree and a Class E Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon-Possession of a Loaded Weapon While Intoxicated. Bond was fixed at $7,500 cash or surety.
Abernathy’s initial hearing is pending at Cooper County Circuit Court.
