A Kansas City man who reportedly led a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper on a vehicle chase and then fled on foot has been charged with a felony and several misdemeanors in Cooper County.
A probable-cause statement says on May 10, the trooper attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver of the Grand Caravan ignored the trooper and sped away on I-70. The suspect vehicle exited at mile marker 98 and eventually entered an abandoned parking lot along Highway 135. The driver exited while the vehicle was still moving and fled on foot. He was chased by the trooper for about a half-mile. When another trooper arrived on the scene, 43-year-od Christopher Eugene Bartlett was taken into custody. The trooper said Bartlett told him he possessed a pistol but had discarded it during the foot pursuit.
Online court documents say Bartlett, whose address was updated to Sedalia in court documents, has been charged with a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest, Detention or Stop By Fleeing- Creating a Substantial Risk of Serious Injury or Death to Any Person; and five driving-related misdemeanors. Bond has been set at $7,500 cash or surety.
Bartlett is scheduled to be arraigned at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, at Cooper County Circuit Court.
