With Memorial Day barely in the rear-view mirror, an area teacher is beaming with pride following an unplanned encounter during a trip to the nation’s capital.
According to an e-mail from the Marshall Public School District’s “Teacher of the Year” Mindi Coslet she sent out at 6:55 p.m. on Thursday, May 30:
“I couldn’t let this moment pass without sharing with you an awesome moment our students just had in Washington D.C.
“While visiting the Air Force Memorial, our students encountered an Honor Flight Veterans’ Tour. Once they were informed of who the men were, our students spent the next 30 minutes shaking hands, saying thank you, and listening to our veterans share stories. During the 30 minutes, three other student groups came and went without any acknowledgment of the Honor Flight.
“When it was time to go, none of the students were ready to leave. Many were in tears, overcome by the power of the experience.
“I am always proud to be an Owl, but today my pride overflows. We are raising the next generation of world changers.”
