The Marshall City Council discussed a resolution creating a task force to review the city’s ordinances and codes as they relate to nuisance properties and dangerous buildings during its meeting Monday, July 1.
Mayor Julie Schwetz said she brought to the council’s attention that she was going to look into setting up a committee to really look at the broad issue of code enforcement, nuisance properties.
After City Clerk Julie Lewis read the entire proposed resolution, some councilmen were in favor of the proposal, but said they would rather wait and get more input from the community. Ward 2 Councilman Kirk Arends said:
Other councilpersons also liked the idea but thought postponing a decision was in the best interest of everybody.
After taking into consideration all of the concerns of councilmen, Ward 4 Councilman Tom Hagedorn made a motion to table the issue for more discussion during a future meeting. His motion was seconded and approved unanimously.
The entire discussion is contained in the following audio clip.
