Marshall fire fighters reported to a fire on Wednesday, July 3.
According to a report, fire fighters were toned out at 5:20 a.m. They arrived on the scene at 5:23 and had everything under control at 5:35.
The tone came in from an automatic alarm at the High Rise in the 200 block on South Redman Avenue. Investigation revealed a sprinkler head was activated in Room 110. Fire fighters turned off the water to the sprinkler head and replaced it. After they turned the water on again, they found a tool belt on top of a dresser that apparently was ignited by a lit candle. The tenant reportedly had grabbed a towel; wet it and covered the fire. But when he threw the towel on the fire, he must have hit the sprinkler head with the towel that activated it. The blaze was out upon arrival of the firemen.
Damage has been estimated at $10,000 to the property and $2,000 to the contents in the apartment.
No injuries were reported from the scene.
Fire fighters cleared the scene at 6:19.
