An Independence man is facing multiple counts of a felony charge for allegedly failing to return rented equipment in Carroll County.
According to a probable-cause statement, 42-year-old Jeremy Ace Woods rented a Toro stump grinder, Toro Tracked Mudd Buggy and a Toro Trencher Head and Crumber attachment on July 10. The items are valued at more than $20,000.
According to the agreement Woods signed at Wood Shed and Hardware Supply in Carrollton, he was supposed to return the equipment by July 12. The owner of the business told authorities he saw the Toro Trencher Head and Crumber attachment attempting to be sold by Woods through a Facebook page.
The owner made contact with Woods and told him to return the equipment on July 12, and Woods never returned the pieces. The owner reported them as stolen on July 13.
According to online court documents, a warrant has been issued and Woods has been charged with three counts of a Class D Felony for Stealing Leased or Rented Property, with no bond allowed.
Woods’ initial hearing is pending at Carroll County Circuit Court.
