As summer construction season begins to wind down, Sedalia’s Water Division wants to give residents living in the 2018 Water Improvements Project Area (West 2nd Street to West 7th Street and South Park Avenue to South Ohio Avenue) a brief update on the status of the project.
A news release says the city’s Water Division contractor is scheduled to complete work in the area of South Park Avenue just north of the intersection with West 2nd Street in the northbound lane from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, September 30. This block of South Park Avenue will be restricted to one lane of traffic with heavy equipment and workers in the area as a water main is installed.
Additionally, from 6:30 a.m. on Monday, September 30, and continuing through 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, West 4th Street is scheduled for work just east of the intersection at South Quincy Avenue in the eastbound lane. This block of West 4th Street will be restricted to one lane of traffic with heavy equipment and workers in the area as a water main is installed.
The news release says the majority of the large water mains- 8- to 10-inch lines- have been installed in the area. The remaining large water mains to be installed during the first part of October are located along West 2nd Street, West 4th Street and West 7th Street between South Moniteau Avenue and South Ohio Avenue.
The balance of work will then involve flushing, sterilizing and testing the new mains to prepare for tying the new mains into the water distribution system and then to residences. Less heavy equipment will be in the area as the boring of the large mains is completed. The large holes where mains were installed will begin being filled, the areas leveled and reseeded to establish vegetation and sidewalks restored. Residents should expect to see about the same number of construction workers in the area as the focus is on installation of service lines between the new mains up to the meter serving each home.
Residents have expressed concern about children participating in Halloween activities in the area. The contractor is making every effort to have the majority, if not all of the large holes, filled by Halloween. The city’s Water Division staff and the contractor will work together to assure safety is a top priority, and remaining work areas will be closely monitored. The city continues to plan for completion of the construction and installation of the water mains and service lines by the end of November.
Replacement of all sidewalks and restoration of vegetation may be delayed until spring dependent on weather conditions.
