A ceremony to honor a volunteer firefighter who died in the line of duty will be held Sunday, October 6, 2019.
According to a news release from the Missouri Department of Transportation, in honor of his service to his community, the portion of Route E from Lafayette Street South to Outer Road Interstate 70 East in Lafayette County will be named the “Firefighter Jeff Sanders Memorial Highway.”
On June 19th, 2017, while responding to a call for the Mayview Fire Protection District, Jeff Sanders, a volunteer firefighter for the Mayview Fire Protection District, died in the line of duty. Sanders served the MFPD for more than 30 years as a volunteer in the community.
A memorial sign dedication ceremony honoring Sanders, will be held at 3 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Mayview Fire Station located at 500 W Orchard St. in Mayview.
The public is invited to attend the event.
