The Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen discussed several items, including the Transient Guest Tax during its meeting on Monday, October 14.
According to unofficial minutes from the meeting, Albert Hartman with Sweet Springs Revitalization informed the board Oktoberfest was canceled due to lack of vendors- as they were not able to come on such short notice Hartman asked if the Transient Guest Tax money that was earmarked for Oktoberfest could be transferred to the Winter Weekend and Lighted Christmas Parade. The board decided that issue will need to be taken before the Transient Guest Tax Committee.
Larry Hawkins, with the Sweet Springs Historical Society, asked if the city could apply with the Missouri Conservation Department for a winter trout program. Aldermen decided the historical society could fill out a Transient Guest Tax application.
Aldermen voted to put out the Transient Guest Tax applications for organizations to pick up.
In other news, Mayor Franny Vaught said the city received a check for $100,000 from the Develop Saline County sales tax. He also said aldermen voted to give the Sweet Springs Restoration Foundation $20,000 from the funds. The check was presented to Bill Koch, who said the money will be used to put a roof on the old McKeage and Mattingly’s buildings.
The board also voted to pay for insurance for the new equipment at the city swimming pool at a cost of $341.
