A motorcycle accident that involved an animal in the roadway resulted in an Independence man suffering moderate injuries in Lafayette County on Sunday.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened as a westbound Harley Davidson, driven by 45-year-old James Benson, reportedly struck a dog in the roadway. Benson was ejected from the bike.

Benson was transported via Wellington E.M.S. to a hospital in Independence for treatment.

The accident happened just before 7:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 24 at Missouri Route 224.
