A Sedalia arts organization has several upcoming events planned for lovers of music, movies, and theatre.
The Hayden Liberty Center Association for the Arts will kick off its film series at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 4, with internationally renowned pianist Jeff Barnhart. Barnhart will accompany a variety of silent movies on the piano, along with sharing humorous stories and playing selections from his catalog of ragtime and jazz music.
On Saturday, November 5, the group will welcome in country singer, poet, and author Royal Wade Kimes for an evening of music. Kimes will pay tribute to American veterans at the show; Sedalia American roots band One Track Train will serve as the opening act. The evening begins at 7 p.m.
On Monday, November 14, the Liberty Center will play host to Troupe America’s Christmas musical comedy “Away in the Basement: A Church Ladies Basement Christmas”. The show marks the third installment of the popular Church Basement Ladies series. Performances will take place at 2 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m.

An area fire department has benefited from the fundraising efforts of 9th grade high school students.

Smith-Cotton High School’s Team Victory this week presented members of the Sedalia Fire Department with 22 hand-tied blankets and a monetary donation of more than $1,000 as part of the freshman class’s Day of Service held Thursday, October 27.
The blankets, which were created by Team Valor, are to be given out to families in distress. The money was raised through a walk-a-thon.
The Sedalia Rental Inspection Committee meets on Wednesday, November 2, for a regular session meeting.
Items on the agenda include review of recent discussions with the City of Independence, preparations for an upcoming conference call with the City of Cape Girardeau, discussion of rental-oriented ordinances, and a look at rental housing statistics in the city.
The meeting gets underway at 6:30 p.m. in the Mayor’s Conference Room of the Sedalia Municipal Building at 200 South Osage Avenue.
Nikolai Nikolaenko, age 69, of Grand Forks, ND, and formerly of Slater, died Sunday, October 30, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, at Slater United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
