Temperatures were relatively mild for December at the beginning, but they plummeted toward the end of the 31-day month.
According to data from the National Weather Service, the average high figured out to be 42.6 degrees at the KMMO studio in Marshall. The high was 71 on December 5. But the high temperature reached only 12 degrees on December 27 and 31.
The average low was 23.3 degrees, with the low of minus-2 reported on December 27 and 28. Lows also were in the single digits at 9 on December 30 and 2 on December 31.
Measurable precipitation was recorded on only two days– 43-hundredths of an inch on December 5 and eight-hundredths of an inch on December 18. And, enough snow fell, although no official reading is available, just prior to Christmas to cover the ground and provide the area with a “White Christmas.”
