The Concordia Board of Aldermen heard reports regarding Independence Day during its meeting on Monday, July 2.
According to the minutes from the meeting, Alderman Dwight Emde announced an event in which residents can attend events for $1 on Independence day. Emde said residents can swim at the city pool from 4 to 6 p.m., as well as attend a movie screening at the community center at 7 p.m. Emde added certain items sold at the concession stands for the events will be sold at $1.
During his reports, Mayor Michael Brown said the city’s firework display will be held at the city lake on Sunday, July 8. Brown also said he has recently received a lot of positive comments regarding the painting of street lights on Main Street and improvements being made on the city’s streets. Also during his report, Brown presented a handout detailing the possible approval of charging sales tax for online retailers, which would be included in a revenue fund due to the current use tax in place.
Also during the meeting, Aldermen approved for the Concordia Main Street committee to use Central Park for the lighting of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree event on Saturday, November 24.
