A Marceline woman was seriously injured in a traffic crash in Chariton County on Tuesday.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as 35-year-old Melanie Metcalf reportedly fell asleep and her southbound vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck the ground and a fence.
Metcalf, who reportedly was not wearing a seat belt, was transported by Chariton County ambulance to Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield for treatment.
The crash happened at about 8:25 a.m. on Missouri Highway 5, four miles south of Marceline.
