A Sedalia man has been charged with a felony for the alleged possession of explosive materials recently in Pettis County.
A probable-cause statement says a concerned citizen spoke with the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office about a text message they received from 37-year-old Cody Lappat on September 24. The text message from Lappat reportedly stated he was “going to show people and the cops just how crazy he was.” The concerned citizen added they went to Lappat’s residence to talk and reportedly noticed he was in the process of making a “pipe bomb” with PVC pipe and gun power. Lappat reportedly stated he was going to “blow stuff up and cause harm to someone he knew.”
Deputies reportedly found materials commonly used in making explosives at Lappat’s residence and apprehended the subject during the execution of a search warrant.
Online court documents say Lappat has been charged with a Class D Felony for Unlawful Possession or the Manufacturing of an Illegal Weapon. Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety.
Lappat appeared is custody via video for his arraignment hearing on September 26, and his cause was continued for a bond-reduction hearing at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
