A Marshall resident expressed concern about some burning of leaves in her neighborhood during the meeting of the Marshall City Council on Monday, December 17.
Cathy Swinger, who lives in the 1600 block on West Broadmoor Lane in the Westport Addition, said smoke from burning leaves is blowing into her home and others and outside where the children are playing.

Marshall Fire Chief Tony Day says the city has ordinances for burning inside the city limits– they are the same as they have been for the past 40 years. He said you have to have a burn permit.

Day added that he believes smoke from burning leaves is the most benign there is- saying most of the time there is no spray on them- no insecticide. “They do smoke a lot, but most of that is because of moisture on the leaves.”
Mayor Mark Gooden assured Swinger the council will look into the situation.
