A Sedalia man accused of harassing a female victim by sending her approximately 600 text messages last month in Pettis County appeared for his arraignment hearing earlier this week.
A probable-cause statement says the victim told Sedalia Police officers about being harassed by a former coworker, 27-year-old Joshua Miller on January 10. The victim said she told Miller numerous times about not wanting to talk with him and blocked his cell phone number, but Miller allegedly kept contacting the victim by using different phone numbers. Also, the victim detailed a situation where Miller allegedly followed her home after work and she told him to leave, but he reportedly stayed in the front yard for an hour.
On January 16, officers spoke with Miller who stated he understood he should stop contacting the victim, but said he couldn’t. The officers reportedly let Miller go after discussing the possible felony charges he could face if he didn’t stop contacting the victim. A few days later, the victim said Miller allegedly began to text her multiple messages again.
Online court documents say Miller has been charged with a Class E Felony for First-Degree Harassment with bond set at $25,000 cash or surety.
Millier was formally arraigned on Tuesday, February 5, and his cause was continued with a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
