A Franklin man has been charged with a felony for allegedly assaulting medical personnel earlier this week in Howard County.
A probable-cause statement says Howard County deputies responded to a medical call for an individual who had an allergic reaction to medication and became violent at a residence in the 4100 block of Highway 87 near Franklin on February 24.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with 31-year-old Joseph Schaefer- the individual with the reported allergic reaction- and allegedly noticed the odor of alcohol emanating from his breath. Deputies reportedly handcuffed Schaefer due to his combative nature at the time and advised Howard County Ambulance that the scene was secure. Reportedly, Schaefer became angry with one of the medics and kicked the medic in the groin area.
Online court documents say Schaefer has been charged with a Class D Felony for Assault in the Third Degree-Special Victim. Bond has been set at $10,000 cash only.
Schaefer’s initial hearing is pending at Howard County Circuit Court.
