More than 100 area veterans will take the trip of a lifetime early next week.
Central Missouri Honor Flight No. 61 will take 110 veterans to Washington, D.C. in the final flight of 2019 on Tuesday, November 12, to see memorials dedicated to the veterans’ military service.
A news release says Central Missouri Honor Flight No. 61 leaves the Columbia Courtyard by Marriott at 1:45 a.m. with a blended passenger list of veterans from World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. They will be flying at no cost thanks to the generosity of those who donate and keep these honor flights going.
The veterans will enjoy a one-day tour of the WWII, Lincoln, Korean War, Vietnam, Marine Corps, Air Force and Women in Military Service Memorials; Arlington National Cemetery; and witness the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns.
The veterans return at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 12. For the homecoming, the public is encouraged to arrive at the Courtyard by Marriott at 3301 Lemone Industrial Drive in Columbia at approximately 8:30 p.m. to get a good view of the returning veterans and to view the inspirational flag ceremony in the hotel parking lot.
It costs $300 to sponsor a veteran for future honor flight missions. You can go to the website- centralmissourihonorflight.com – for more information on applying as a veteran or guardian or how to donate for future flights. Honor flights will resume in spring 2020.
