A Fayette man is facing felony charges after an incident just after 10 p.m. on Monday, January 6.
According to a probable-cause statement, authorities responded to a residence on Route A in reference to an alleged assault that was occurring between an adult male and a juvenile male. Prior to arrival of law enforcement, officers were made aware the adult male, identified as Matthew Breedlove, was armed with a firearm.
Upon arrival, deputies were advised Breedlove fled the scene and was armed with a shotgun and a pistol. The persons in the house said once Breedlove was outside, he fired one round from one of the weapons.
The juvenile told authorities Breedlove had him around the neck and knocked him to the floor. Once he was loose, the juvenile called 9-1-1. Authorities noted the juvenile to have redness on his neck and nose.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded with a trooper, a K-9 officer and a helicopter to search for Breedlove. Just before 11 p.m., Breedlove was located by the chopper hiding between his pond and Highway 124. He was apprehended shortly thereafter and reportedly admitted he had discharged the weapon, saying he fired it by accident. Breedlove advised authorities he had an AR rifle and a pistol; had hidden them, and wasn’t going to tell them where. He only said he had secured them on the property. Breedlove was arrested.
Court documents say Breedlove has been charged with Class E Felonies for Domestic Assault in the Third Degree and Resisting Arrest for a Felony. Bond has been set at $20,000 cash only.
Breedlove’s initial hearing is pending at Howard County Circuit Court.
