Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital will hold an event in honor of African American History Month. The event is meant to honor the contributions made by African Americans to the development of health care excellence in the U.S., and to celebrate the importance of diversity.
A news release says the event will feature speakers, a timeline that illustrates the history of African American medical leaders from the 1700s to present, and a taste of Columbia soul food.
Aaron Sheley, a U.S. Army Veteran, will discuss his experience as an African American in the armed forces and his current role in Truman VA’s Whole Health Program. Patricia Hall, PhD, FACHE, Director of Truman VA and U.S. Army Veteran, and Crystal Robb, RN, also will make brief remarks. Additionally, the event will feature a healthy-cooking demonstration, taste-testing and trivia challenges.
The full event will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, at the Patient Education Center, Room A139, at 800 Hospital Drive in Columbia.
The event Schedule:
Opening remarks by Aaron Sheley at 1 p.m.
Remarks by Patricia Hall at 1:30 p.m.
Cooking Demonstration at 2 p.m.
Remarks by Crystal Robb at 3 p.m.
