A couple of things were brought before the Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen during its meeting on Monday, March 9.
According to meeting minutes, Laura Pummill was present to discuss the way traffic goes through the park. She said she would like to see the road in front of the Boy Scout cabin a two-way street from the driveway of the scout cabin to Columbia Street. It was asked why the direction of traffic was changed. City Clerk Michelle Fuehring said it was changed as a safety precaution for the children who are playing in the park. It was said that street would be too narrow to have traffic going both ways.
Aldermen voted 4-0 to allow traffic to enter the park only at the main entrance and exit on either the north or south side of the park.
In other news, Tara Brewer, Debbie Hollingsworth and Lindsay Fogarty discussed their project “Cultivating a Community.” Brewer said they felt the town was really inspired to bring the downtown back. She said from 1 to 4 p.m. on March 29, they are asking the community to come out and clean, paint and do whatever they can to the “Downtown Comeback Project.” She said the Sweet Springs Restoration Foundation will be letting small groups tour the buildings.
Brewer said she has been in contact with the fire department to clean the streets and sidewalks prior to the event. Hollingsworth said they might want to close Miller Street on the day of the event.
Aldermen voted 4-0 to close Miller Street from Main Street to Lexington Street from noon to 5 p.m. on March 29.
