The Marshall Municipal Utilities Board and the Marshall City Council have elected to terminate the water purchase agreement with Consolidated Public Water Supply District No. 2 of Lafayette, Johnson and Saline Counties for potable water no later than May 5, 2022.
According to the District, in the event that the MMU Board and Marshall City Council insist on the termination of the agreement, the District will need to develop an alternate water source and modify some transmission water lines and possibly storage hydraulics that were designed to be supplied exclusively by MMU.
The District serves Marshall water to a number of customers including resident of Blackburn, Mt. Leonard, Grand Pass, and the City of Sweet Springs. Marshall water is also wholesaled to Public Water Supply District No. 1 of Pettis, Johnson and Saline Counties.
The District is exploring alternatives to the renewal of the water purchase contract.
District officials are hopeful that a new long-term service agreement might be possible, but planning contingently. The Board of Directors is addressing the possibility that a change may be needed. Engineering services have been engaged to address that alternative.
Managerial representatives of both entities are establishing contact and hope to explore options.
