Two Odessa residents suffered moderate injuries in a vehicle-train crash in Lafayette County on Tuesday.
According to a report from Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as 74-year-old Carol Waters failed to yield her southbound vehicle to a westbound locomotive, driven by 52-year-old Curtis Harper, of Higginsville, at a designated railroad crossing. Waters’ vehicle was struck by the locomotive on the driver’s-side rear quarter panel.
While Harper was not injured, Waters and a 72-year-old passenger in her vehicle, Linda Buis, were transported by ambulances to Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence for treatment.
The crash happened at 4:43 p.m. on Gammon Road, south of Blue Book Road.
