During a typical year, most local Little League teams would be playing the game of baseball and softball on community fields.

However, organized Little League games will not be played in Missouri District No. 1.

A release from Marshall Little League Ball Association President Matt Smith says, “It is with our deepest regrets that, along with other charters in our District, we have decided to cancel our spring/summer season for ages 8 & up baseball and softball.”

The league and volunteers took as much time that it could take trying to find a way to “play ball”.

The release continues: “Due to safety and health concerns with the Covid-19 pandemic, and guidelines set forth at this time for social distancing and overall safety of all those involved, we have made the tough decision to cancel our 2020 season. Missouri Little League District 1 has also canceled within our region. We are now working on a series of camps and clinics to offer our kids in the program that will come at a later date this summer, if allowed and if facilities are available.”

These charters- representing nearly 30 Missouri Counties- are commonly known as: Carroll County, Harrison County, LaCoMo Central, LaCoMo East and Warrensburg Y.E.S. Little League.

Smith says MLLBA will begin the process of issuing refunds for sign-ups that have been paid or the option of applying that to next season if you wish.

You are asked to go to MLLBA’s Facebook page for updates as to when refunds will be available.

The release says: “Your local charter will continue to field questions, concerns and lend support toward youth baseball and softball programs as these conditions change.”
