A city hall in Saline County will remain closed to the public until at least early next month.
According to unofficial meeting minutes, the Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen discussed the reopening of city hall on Monday, May 11. It was pointed out that the Missouri Supreme Court has steps for the courts to reopen with safety measures like face masks and temperature checks. After some discussion, aldermen voted to keep city hall closed until at least June 8, 2020.
In other news, Public Works Superintendent Nate Lea told the board the city received one bid for the street-improvement project. Lea said he would like to do the entire asphalt repair, including the area by the Pagoda in the park and chip/seal on Washington, Grant, Johnson, Vine, Oak, New Rand and the streets in the park. Aldermen approved the bid from Vance Brothers for $153,205.50.
Mayor Franny Vaught opened a bid the city received for sidewalk repair. The bid was for $13,050 from Ramey Concrete Construction to tear out and replace 450 feet of ADA sidewalk on Marshall Street. Lea explained the completion of this project will provide a safe traveling path to and from the school, Royal Oaks and The Villa. Aldermen voted to approve the bid.
The board voted 3-1 to approve Transient Guest Tax funds of $2,000 for the Sweet Springs Restoration Foundation to promote events, including a golf tournament being held at Tri-City Country Club in Emma.
