The groundbreaking ceremony for the Heckart Community Center in Sedalia is scheduled for later this afternoon.
Sedalia Parks and Recreation Department Director Amy Epple says this is an exciting day.

Epple said the center is a nearly 92,000-square-foot facility. She says it will have three high-school-sized basketball courts; six volleyball and nine pickleball courts; a competitive pool and leisure pool and a diving well; fitness, wellness and a three-lane walking track; as well as child watch and indoor play. She says it also will be home to the new senior center.
Epple also says everybody is invited to attend the ceremony on the land that used to be the site of Jennie Jaynes Stadium.

Voters approved an additional one-eighth-of-a-cent sales tax, as well as the removal of the sunset for the capital-improvements tax.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 5:30.
