The Missouri Valley College administration has announced the cancellation of all 2020 homecoming activities due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A news release says all events and activities scheduled for the weekend of September 11-12, including the alumni banquet, MVC Athletic Hall of Fame banquet and 50+ Club breakfast, are canceled.
“Homecoming is such a special time for our Viking family and the greater Marshall community as alumni come together to celebrate many lifelong friendships,” said Amanda Linneman, MVC director of alumni relations. “Although it is disappointing that we cannot be on campus, we can come together in another way, which is for the care and concern of Vikings all over the world.”
The only events that are not canceled at this time are the September 12 football game against Culver-Stockton College and other already-scheduled athletic competitions. Details on the social-distancing policy as determined by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, Heart of America Athletic Conference and the College will be announced at a later date.
Anniversary classes will celebrate at Homecoming 2021. Additionally, the Outstanding Alumni and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be recognized at Homecoming 2021.
The College plans for face-to-face classes this fall with a modified academic calendar that was announced earlier this month. The fall semester will begin August 20 and conclude on November 24.
