Five area counties have released updated information on COVID-19 numbers over the weekend.
According to county health officials, in Saline County, six new positive cases of COVID-19 were confirmed. That brings the overall total to 431 since the beginning of the pandemic. With 380 positive patients recovered (including five over the weekend), and seven deaths, that leaves 44 active cases, including two people hospitalized.
In Cooper County, one new positive case was reported on Sunday, bringing its overall total of positive cases to 138. With 93 recoveries, that leaves 45 active cases, including two hospitalizations. There are 10 cases that are travel-related, with the other 128 being through community transmission. Also, 44 cases are through congregate living.
No new positive cases were reported, so the overall total remains at 47 in Howard County. With two more recoveries, bringing that total to 42, there are five active cases in the county.
Also, no new cases were reported in Lafayette County over the past couple of days.
As of 3 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 134 of the total of 171 cases had recovered. With three deaths, that left 34 active cases.
The Chariton County Health Center announced on Saturday, August 8, it was notified of two new positive cases of COVID-19 in the county. That means there have been 21 total cases in the county since the beginning of the pandemic. With 14 cases released from observation, there are seven active cases of COVID-19 in the county.
