In order to help out the food supply for needy families in Sedalia and Pettis County, the Smith-Cotton High School National Honor Society is collecting certain nonperishable food items this week.

Library Media Specialist and National Honor Society Advisor Dr. Lorin Blackburn-Thierfelder says patrons can drop off canned food items from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day Monday, September 21, through Friday, September 25, at the high school.

She says this food drive is being held in conjunction with several churches in the city to collect food items for Open Door Food Pantry of Pettis County.

Dr. Blackburn-Thierfelder says it’s all about helping out those in need.

Dr. Blackburn-Thierfelder also said the Community Cafe at the high school is open each weekday to help out needy residents, as well.

The hours for the Community Cafe is 4:30 to 6 p.m. each Monday through Friday.
