New Franklin R-1 school district has announced a member of the New Franklin school community has tested positive for COVID-19. Superintendent, Brian Cordel says the health and safety of the students and staff are the top priority.

The district has been in contact with Howard County Health Department and is taking appropriate steps to assist in contact tracing close contacts with the positive case. The affected individual has been isolated and their immediate family/household members and all identified close contacts will be directed to quarantine, monitor for COVID-19 symptoms, and work with their healthcare provider to get tested as directed by the Howard County Health Department.

Close contact means being within 6 feet of someone for more than 15 minutes while they are infectious with COVID-19.

For privacy and confidentiality, the district will not provide any identifying information of the positive case. This includes whether positive case is a student or staff member, the age/grade of student, or the position a staff member holds with our schools.
