The inaugural awards celebrate Boone County businesses and nonprofits that have shown and promoted kindness in dealings with customers, employees, youth, and the community at large.

In an interview with Missouri Business Alert, Burrell’s CEO and president C.J. Davis cited a free self-care initiative called Be Well Community as one of several ways the mission based nonprofit promotes hope and healing for clients and staff. “We started out with a Zoom… for employees, where we went through some of the brain science behind meditation, relaxation and self-care. And that really morphed into what we now call our Be Well Community, where we offer a free live Facebook event for anybody … where we walk you through the science of how to caretake for yourself,” Davis said.

According to a news release, Burrell began going live on its Facebook page (www.facebook.com/burrellcenter) in late March with the Be Well Community and continues doing so at 12:45 p.m. each weekday. The popular offering has inspired related Facebook groups moderated by crisis counselors. The new award was created to honor kindness by businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Burrell’s recognition highlights how they take care of the caretakers.
