During the meeting of the Glasgow School Board on Wednesday, November 18, Superintendent Sonya Fuemmeler gave an update on COVID-19.

According to unofficial minutes from the meeting, Fuemmeler said as of November 18, the district continues to remain on Green or Phase 1 of its Path to Recovery Plan.

Fuemmeler said, “However, we recognize that our status is subject to change from one moment to the next. We continue to seek guidance and input from as many resources as possible and communicate almost daily with the Howard County Health Department and the other schools in our county. In addition, we seek input from our faculty and staff, Board of Education and our community as we work to make difficult decisions that are bound to create controversy regardless of whatever decisions are made.”

The school calendar was amended to extend Thanksgiving break to include Monday, November 23, and Tuesday, November 24. And, after much discussion, thought and consideration, the board tabled a vote on a district-wide mask mandate until the meeting on December 16. In the meantime, school families are being asked to complete a survey, which will allow the board to gather additional input before a vote.

In other news, the district received special news from the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame that on December 9 the Glasgow High School boys basketball program will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at a ceremony at Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in Springfield.

The district currently is collecting names and addresses of all former players, coaches, assistant coaches and managers who will receive a personal invitation to the ceremony. If you have information, such as – name, address, phone number and graduation year- for someone who should be added to the list- you are urged to send an e-mail to Athletic Director Mick Cropp at mcropp@glasgow.k12.mo.us.
