Marshall fire fighters were busy over the last several days putting out blazes in laundry rooms.

On Sunday, December 27, fire fighters were dispatched to the 700 block of West Jackson Street for a structure fire.

According to a release from the Marshall Fire Department, fire fighters were toned out at 2:54 a.m. and arrived on the scene at 2:56 a.m.

Upon arrival, they saw heavy black smoke showing from the rear of the residence. They pulled a preconnect and entered through the rear of the residence in the laundry room. They put out flames coming from the washer and dryer area. The fire was under control at 3:20 a.m.

Fire fighters searched for a missing cat. Fire fighters administered oxygen to the cat, but it was deceased.

Fire fighters cooled hot spots, ventilated the structure and overhauled the laundry room. They pulled the electric meter and shut off the gas and water to the house.

Fire fighters cleared the scene at 4:05 a.m. and returned to quarters.

Estimated damage was $10,000 to the $20,000 structure and $5,000 to the $10,000 worth of contents.

No other injuries were reported from the scene.

Fire fighters were dispatched to a structure fire at 11:38 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23. They arrived on the scene of the blaze in the 500 block of North Benton Avenue at 11:40 p.m.

According to a fire department report, upon arrival, fire fighters found light smoke coming from the basement. They made entry into the basement and found a dryer on fire. They extinguished the blaze and ventilated the structure.

Fire fighters had the blaze under control at 12:07 a.m. on Thursday, December 24. They stayed on the scene to check for and put out hot spots. They returned to quarters at 12:58 a.m.

The amount of damage was estimated at $4,500 to the $30,000 of contents.

There were no injuries reported from the scene.
