The Lafayette County Health Department has released information about what has received about the United States’ rollout of the COVID-19 vaccines.
As of December 30, the health department says:
The U.S. is behind on getting enough doses of the vaccine, but is working hard with multiple manufacturers to speed things up.
Vaccinators can be: major health systems and independent hospitals and doctors; large or small chain and independent pharmacies; independent hospitals and doctors; local health departments; or volunteer mobile vaccinators.
The vaccine itself will be free. There are two doses, so you will get a card or app that says you had the first one and when to come to get the second.
The rollout will be in Phases. Phase I started in late December, and then will increase through the winter of 2021:
PHASE 1A– That has just begun in this region, but is likely to continue locally for the next several weeks.
CVS and Walgreens will get a supply to contract with all the nursing homes to vaccinate residents and staff.
Hospital and healthcare systems will get enough to vaccinate their staff and associated personnel.
Some local health departments will begin to offer vaccine to other patient-facing healthcare workers.
PHASE 1B (Phase 1A must be completed first); Continue with nursing homes; High-risk individuals and those over 65; First Responders; Critical Infrastructure with high risk; Other critical infrastructure including schools, childcare and energy, etc.
When the Lafayette County Health Department has obtained vaccine for Phase 1B, it will give out information on where and how to get it through every possible local public information medium. Other vaccinators like your medical and pharmacy providers may be vaccinators during this phase, as well. It also may be that large critical infrastructure employers will have made arrangements for vaccination of their workforces.
PHASE 2 will begin late winter and continue through the Spring of 2021, which includes populations at increased risk (homeless and institutionalized).
PHASE 3 will be in late spring and continue for the rest of the year 2021- and this includes the general population, anyone who wants it.
