Two Hughesville residents are facing felony charges for allegedly forcing their way into an apartment and one of them assaulting the apartment’s resident on August 6 in Sweet Springs.

According to a police report, the resident said she was woken from sleep to loud banging on her door. She said as soon as she attempted to open the door, it was forced open, knocking her backwards. The victim identified Jodie Cornine as the woman who ran through the door and began assaulting her. The victim said as she attempted to stop the assault, Cornine’s father, Michael, yelled at her to leave his daughter Jodie alone. According to the victim, Michael Cornine was blocking the doorway, sealing her only access to safety. Michael Cornine reportedly had a large pistol on his side, which the victim stated made her fear for her life and the life of her grandson who was asleep in another room.

Jodie and Michael Cornine have been charged with a Class B Felony for Burglary in the First Degree. Jodie Cornine is also facing a Class E Felony for Assault in the Third Degree. Each of the defendants in this case posted $15,000 cash bond on August 20.

Jodie Cornine failed to appear for a Preliminary Hearing on January 6, 2021 due to her being in custody at the Pettis County Jail. Her bond was reinstated to the original $15,000 cash or surety. A Motion Hearing in this set to be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Saline County Circuit Court.

Michael Cornine was originally arraigned on September 9. His case was bound over to the Trial Division of the Circuit Court for arraignment at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Saline County Circuit Court.
