The Rural Major Case Squad is investigating a weekend shooting incident in Johnson County.

According to the Warrensburg Police Department, officers were dispatched at 12:22 a.m. on Sunday, January 17, to Western Missouri Medical Center to investigate a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 22-year-old Marcus A. Brown Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound. Brown was pronounced deceased shortly after officers’ arrival.

Officers interviewed two men who were with Brown at Bodies Bar at 126 West Pine Street. They were attending the “One Ratchet Battle of the Midwest” party. The men said when they left the party, they were followed by several males to the parking lot on the northwest corner of Washington and Pine Streets, where a fight started involving Brown and the men. At some point during the fight, Brown was shot by one of the men. After Brown was shot, he was transported by the two males with him to the hospital. They said the males involved in the fight and shooting fled the area on foot.

The Warrensburg Police Department is asking anyone with any information about the party or homicide to call the department at (660) 747-9133.

The police department requested assistance from the Rural Major Case Squad, which includes investigators from Johnson, Lafayette, Pettis, Henry, Saline, Carroll and Ray Counties, in addition to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The squad will be activated for up to three days while investigators follow up on leads. In addition to the RCMS members, the Kansas City Police Department also is assisting.
