A Lexington man is facing felony charges in Lafayette County following a domestic disturbance incident in March.

A report from the Lexington Police Department states 31-year-old Thomas Pelayo was arrested on March 30 after officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence in the 200 block of 7th Street.

The caller reported that a male subject was inside the home “destroying” the house. When officers arrived and spoke with the victim alleged that she had recently been assaulted by Pelayo. The alleged victim state during an argument, Pelayo struck her across the face and placed her in a head lock.

While conducting the investigation, the officer observed a vehicle in the front of the residence that had been destroyed by cement blocks. The alleged victim told the officer that Pelayo had thrown the cement blocks through the car. She stated that Pelayo told her that he damaged the car so he wouldn’t take his anger out on her children.

Pelayo is charged with a Class D Felony for Domestic Assault in the Second Degree and a Class E Felony for Domestic Assault in the Third Degree. Bond is set at $15,000 cash only.

Pelayo pleaded not guilty to the  charges during his arraignment on March 30. His next court appearance is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 7 at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
