During a special session of the Marshall School Board on Thursday, April 29, an emergency waiver of a policy and an administrative procedure was discussed.

According to unofficial minutes, Policy GCBA and Administrative Procedure GCBA-AP- which would remove the 10-year experience limit on the teachers’ salary schedule for hiring new teachers effective during the 2021-22 school years- had been requested by building principals.

Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher reported the district, along with other districts in the state, are experiencing a shortage of teachers, and they thought this might attract teachers, allowing them to bring in all of their years of experience.

After much discussion, the board approved a motion for an emergency one-year waiver of Policy GCBA and Administrative Procedure GCBA-AP, effective during the 2021-22 school year.

This issue will be discussed again this fall.
