A 17-year-old Sedalia resident has been charged with felonies relating to a shooting incident earlier this year.
Sedalia Police officers were dispatched to Centennial Park on February 27 for a report of gunfire. Evidence was found in the park and adjacent areas to suggest that gunfire had been exchanged between two vehicles. A victim was treated at Bothwell Regional Health Center for a gunshot wound.
Through investigation, detectives were able to develop cause to arrest Kobe Staten for his part in this incident. On April 22, officers stopped a vehicle in which Staten was an occupant, and he was arrested.
A search warrant was obtained for Staten’s residence, and detectives say they found a stolen firearm, child pornography, and evidence to suggest he was distributing controlled substances.
Court documents say Staten is charged with a B Felony for Assault in the First Degree or Attempt and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. Bond is set at $250,000 cash or surety.
Staten pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on May 27. His next hearing is scheduled to be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 7, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
