
Multiple first-responder agencies reported to a rollover traffic crash in Johnson County on Wednesday, July 21.
According to the Johnson County Fire Protection District, at 7:10 a.m., JCFPD was dispatched to multiple reports of a tanker rollover on Highway 13 at the north roundabout of North 13 Highway and the North Business 13 Highway intersection.
Personnel arrived and located a semi with a fuel tanker on its side within the roundabout. The tanker was loaded with an estimated 8,000 gallons of fuel which was actively leaking from the tank.
MODOT and the Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted with the closure of the roadway to all traffic. Don’s Towing from Sedalia responded to assist in getting the tanker upright.
Kansas City Fire Department’s hazardous materials unit (HazMat 71) and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources responded to assist with containing the spilled fuel. All spilled contents were contained to the area. A private HazMat mitigation company later arrived to begin removing the hazards from the scene.
JCFPD personnel cleared the incident at 11:37 a.m.
