The National Weather Service urges area residents to be cognizant of the upcoming heat wave expected.

Overall, experts say it has been a slightly cooler than normal summer so far.

Well, they say the heat and humidity are coming for an extended stay starting Friday, July 23, so now is the time to prepare.

Experts say you should learn how to recognize the signs of heat illness; cover windows with drapes or shades; weather-strip doors and windows; use window reflectors specifically designed to reflect heat back outside; and identify local cooling centers.
